Projxml.htm: ValueListSortOrder Element
The following sections describe issues you may encounter as you install Microsoft Project.
Error message 2355 or Corrupt Cabinet
During installation of Microsoft Project, if you see error message number 2355 or the message text "Corrupt Cabinet," update the version of Microsoft Windows Installer on your computer by running the appropriate executable file found on the installation CD. The following table shows the location of the executable on various operating systems and assumes that D:\ is your CD drive.
For Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) |
D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSI.EXE |
For Windows NT 4.0 |
D:\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSIW.EXE |
For Windows 2000 |
D:\FILES\SUPPORT\Q282879.EXE |
Note If you're installing from a Select CD, the updated Windows Installer can be found at the following location on the CD:
For Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) |
D:\PRO\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSI.EXE |
For Windows NT 4.0 |
D:\PRO\FILES\SUPPORT\INSTMSIW.EXE |
For Windows 2000 |
D:\PRO\FILES\SUPPORT\Q282879.EXE |
After running the file, restart your computer and begin installation again.
Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 before Microsoft Project 2002
Make sure that you install SQL Server 2000 before installing Microsoft Project 2002. If you install SQL Server 2000 after you install Microsoft Project 2002, SQL Server Analysis Services client dynamic link libraries (DLLs) will not operate properly, preventing connection to online analytical processing (OLAP) services from Microsoft Project Web Access and affecting the OLAP Manager component of SQL Server Analysis Services.
If you have already installed SQL Server 2000 after installing Microsoft Project 2002, run Office repair to fix the problem.
If SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1 or later is installed on the computer where you are installing Microsoft Project, you will not experience this issue and can install the two products in either order.
Installing Microsoft Project 2002 on Windows Terminal Services
If you install Microsoft Project 2002 on Windows Terminal Services, the Installed on First Use option is not available for components.
Installing Microsoft Project 2002 side-by-side with a previous version of Microsoft Project
The setup program allows you to install Microsoft Project 2002 and retain previous versions. However, this is not recommended as there may be unwanted interactions between Microsoft Project 2002 and previous versions.
There are additional documents available to help you in the post-installation phase of Microsoft Project Server, Microsoft Project Professional and Microsoft Project Web Access.
Getting Up and Running with Microsoft Project 2002
Getting Up and Running with Microsoft Project 2002 provides a step-by-step approach to configuring Microsoft Project Professional 2002 and Microsoft Project Server after the initial setup process for both has finished. You can download this document from:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7531&clcid=0x409.
Enterprise Implementation Toolkit
For organizations using Microsoft Project Server, Microsoft Project Professional, and Microsoft Project Web Access, the Enterprise Implementation Toolkit (EIT) provides a complete toolkit for designing, implementing, and rolling out Microsoft Project and Microsoft Web Access in your enterprise. The EIT is downloadable from the web at:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7516&clcid=0x409
The following sections describe issues you may encounter after installation while working with Microsoft Project.
Genius Assistant character no longer installed
Microsoft Project no longer supports the Genius Assistant character. If you were using this Office Assistant and are upgrading from Microsoft Project 2000, the Assistant is switched to the default character, Clippit. You can select another Assistant by right-clicking the Assistant and then clicking Choose Assistant.
If you attempt to open a project from within another application, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, while you're using Microsoft Project Professional and are connected to a Microsoft Project Server, not all commands work as expected. For example, the Build Team from Enterprise command does not work in this situation.
Opening Projects from a Microsoft Project 2000 Database
When you open a project from a Microsoft Project 2000 database, the project may open in read-only. Because the Microsoft Project 2002 database schema includes additional tables and additional fields within some of the existing tables, Microsoft Project 2002 needs to update the schema. If you do not have Alter Table and Create Table privileges, the updated changes cannot be made and Microsoft Project 2002 opens the project read-only.
Custom field formulas with nested date functions may crash
If you create custom field formulas that use the built-in date functions (those with a Proj prefix), Microsoft Project 2002 may crash. Because of bugs found in the Jet Expression Service system component, you need to install a service pack for this to work properly. Windows 2000 users should install, at a minimum, the Service Pack 1 update.
Users of all earlier versions of Windows should install the Service Pack 5 update for Jet. For more information on the Jet service pack, please go to:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7529&clcid=0x409
For more information on this issue, see:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=7517&clcid=0x409
Accessing the EnterpriseProject custom field properties
Because of system limitations in Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows NT 4.0, the project-level enterprise custom fields are not available as properties on the Task object. For example, if you want to set the value of the EnterpriseProjectCost1 field, the following method no longer works:
ActiveProject.ProjectSummaryTask.EnterpriseProjectCost1 = 5
Instead, to set and get these properties, use the GetField and SetField methods on the ProjectSummaryTask object. For example,
ActiveProject.ProjectSummaryTask.SetField pjTaskEnterpriseProjectCost1, "5"
X = ActiveProject.ProjectSummaryTask.GetField(pjTaskEnterpriseProjectCost1)
Microsoft Project Developer Center
Additional code samples for Microsoft Project 2002 Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) methods, properties, and events can be found at the Microsoft Project Developer Center, at:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=4329
The following sections describe late changes and errors in Help topics or ScreenTips. Each section heading is a Help topic, a popup definition, or a ScreenTip title.
Compare two versions of a project
There are several help topics such as "Compare two versions of a project," "Compare Projects," and "Comparing Project Versions" that mention the Compare Project Versions tool. The tool is not installed with Microsoft Project 2002. It will be available later from the following location on the Web:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=4325
Once you get to the Office Download Center, you'll need to select "Microsoft Project" as the product, and 2002 as the version.
In this topic, the text "This table contains the following views," should be "This table contains the following fields."
The Help window lost its original position
This troubleshooting topic, says "To reset the Help window to its original size and position, click Auto Tile." It should say "To reset the Help window to a tiled position, click Auto Tile."
I can't locate some of the subtasks I entered
In this troubleshooting topic the link titled "Learn how to remove a filter" goes to the "Delete a filter" topic. To remove a filter, you should choose All Tasks in the filter box instead of deleting the filter.
How do assignments affect scheduling?
The table in this topic that shows how task types affect scheduling includes a typographical error. "If you revise wuration..." should be "If you revise duration..."
The Best Uses section of this topic says "Add the BCWP field to the sheet portion of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view." Instead, the text should say "Add the BCWP field to the Detail Styles or timescaled section of the Task Usage or Resource Usage view."
Goal: Share Resources among projects (Microsoft Project Professional only)
This user goal topic lists four options. The third option should not be there. This error applies to Microsoft Project Professional only.
Change a project start date or finish date
In this topic, when you click the "Change the project finish date" link, the third bullet point in the Notes section says you can use the Adjust Dates button to change the start date. It should say you can use the Adjust Dates button to change the finish date.
The "Resource and Timephased Resource Fields" section of this reference topic says "Timephased task fields can be displayed in the timephased portion of the Resource Usage view." This should say "Timephased resource fields can be displayed in the timephased portion of the Resource Usage view."
In this topic, one of the links in the left pane says "What task information is saved to a baseline?" This link should say "What information is saved to a baseline?"
Enterprise Project Date1-30 (project fields)
In this topic, the second paragraph of the example says "You are a project manager, and see in the Project Information dialog box that there is a new enterprise project cost field available..." This should say "...there is a new enterprise project date field available..."
How do I use assignment units for work resources?
This topic says that the Assign Resources dialog box is accessed by clicking Resources on the Tools menu. It should say that it is accessed by clicking Assign Resources on the Tools menu.
This topic describes buttons that are not available to Microsoft Project Standard 2002 users. The commands that are not available to Microsoft Project Standard users are Resource Center, Portfolio Analyzer, and Portfolio Modeler.
Enterprise Project Text1-40 (project fields)
This topic says "The Enterprise Project Text1 through Enterprise Project Text40 fields can store any custom project number information as defined..." This should say "The Enterprise Project Text1 through Enterprise Project Text40 fields can store any custom project text information as defined..."
Popup definitions for project formulas (miscellaneous topics)
Several popup definitions in the glossary topic display Microsoft Project formulas such as Units = Work * Duration, but are missing an operator symbol. The following definitions are missing operator symbols:
Actual: CV = Budgeted Cost of Work Performed Actual Cost of Work Performed
Expected: CV = Budgeted Cost of Work Performed - Actual Cost of Work Performed
Actual: Remaining Work = Work Actual Work
Expected: Remaining Work = Work - Actual Work
Actual: SV = Budgeted Cost of Work Performed Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled
Expected: SV = Budgeted Cost of Work Performed - Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled
Actual: Remaining Duration = Duration Actual Duration
Expected: Remaining Duration = Duration - Actual Duration
Actual: Duration = Work Units
Expected: Duration = Work ÷ Units
Actual: Units = Work Duration
Expected: Units = Work ÷ Duration
Actual: Work = Duration Units
Expected: Work = Duration * Units
ScreenTip: Project Excel template
This ScreenTip says "Click Project Excel Template to export all of the data from the project using the automatic mapping of the Project Excel Template." However, only a selected portion of the project, not all data, is saved.
ScreenTip: Prompt for project info for new projects
This ScreenTip, found on the General tab of the Options dialog box (accessed from the Tools menu), says that the default setting for this check box is selected. This option is off by default.
The correct name of this property (on the Application object) is ThousandSeparator instead of ThousandsSeparator.
All of the Enterprise properties topics should state that enterprise properties can be used only with Microsoft Project Professional 2002.
This topic has an Events link that shows five methods that should not be listed: EnterpriseAllowLocalBaseCalendars, EnterpriseFileCheckin, GoalAreaTaskHighlight, LocaleID, and SaveAs.
EnterpriseResSubstitutionWizard Method
The PoolOption argument says, "Can be one of the following PjResSubsitutionPoolOpen constants." This text should say "Can be one of the following PjResSubsitutionPoolOption constants."
UpdateFromProjectServer Method
The Applies To and See Also links do not note that this method belongs to the Application object.
The EditUndo method is missing from the Table of Contents under the Methods section. To find this topic, in the Answer Wizard, type EditUndo and click Search.
EnterpriseInactivated and ResourceEnterpriseInactivated Properties
The EnterpriseInactivated and ResourceEnterpriseInactivated Properties have been renamed to EnterpriseInactive and ResourceEnterpriseInactive, respectively.
EnterpriseAllowLocalBaseCalendars Method
The EnterpriseAllowLocalBaseCalendars method should instead be listed as a read-only property.
RequestProgressInformation Method
The description is missing in this method. The method sends a request to team members to send task tracking information back to the project manager and is equivalent to the Request Progress Information command found on the Collaborate menu.
DatabaseProjectUniqueID Property
The DatabaseProjectUniqueID property topic is missing the word "property" in the title.
The remarks section in the Resource Assignment method shows an example similar to the following:
ResourceAssignment Resources:="r1(100%, R]", Operation:=PjChange, With:=""
This example shows a space character between the "100%," and the "R". There should not be a space between the unit value, the comma and the Request/Demand designation. Therefore, the example should be:
ResourceAssignment Resources:="r1(100%,R]", Operation:=PjChange, With:=""
The Add method for the GlobalTaskTables, GlobalResourceTables, GlobalViewsSingle, and GlobalViewsCombination collections create a new table or view in the active project, but not in the enterprise global template. To have the method create the table or view in the enterprise global template, first open the template to make it active and then run the Add method.
Cancel parameter for various events
The WindowActivate, WindowDeactivate, WindowGoalAreaChange, WindowSelectionChange, WindowSidepaneDisplayChange, WindowSidepaneTaskChange, WindowViewChange, and WorkpaneDisplayChange events incorrectly include a description for the Cancel argument. These events do not have a Cancel argument.
The text in this topic says that it is read/write. It is read-only. If you need to write to this setting, you can instead use the OptionsWorkgroup method.
The following section describes late changes to the file Projxml.htm, which contains information about the Microsoft Project XML Schema.
Projxml.htm: LevelingDelayFormat Element
The LevelingDelayFormat element has been added to the tasks container element. The LevelingDelayFormat element goes under the LevelingDelay element, is an integer data type, and can be one of the following values:
3=m, 4=em, 5=h, 6=eh, 7=d, 8=ed, 9=w, 10=ew, 11=mo, 12=emo, 19=%, 20=e%, 21=null, 35=m?, 36=em?, 37=h?, 38=eh?, 39=d?, 40=ed?, 41=w?, 42=ew?, 43=mo?, 44=emo?, 51=%?, 52=e%? and 53=null
Projxml.htm: ValueListSortOrder Element
The ValueListSortOrder element has been added to the ExtendedAttribute container element. The ValueListSortOrder element goes under the Default element, is an integer data type, and can be one of the following values:
0=None, 1=Ascending, 2=Descending
